  • Pakistan to be placed on FATF’s ‘grey list’ of terror financing. FATF is an inter‐governmental policy making body that aims to establish international standards for combating money laundering and terrorist financing. It was established in 1989. It comprises over 39 member countries including India. HQ-Paris.
  • Indigenously developed Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM) Nag was successfully test-fired. Developed by DRDO under integrated guided missile development programme (IGMDP). Others are Agni, Akash, Trishul and Prithvi. HeliNa is the Helicopter launched version of ‘Nag’.
  • Shakti Sthala: World’s largest solar park launched in Karnataka.
  • Union Cabinet approved establishment of National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA): It will be an independent regulator under Companies Act, 2013 for establishment and enforcement of accounting and auditing standards. Composition: It will be 15 members body, consisting of Chairperson, three full-time Members and one Secretary.
  • Paschim Lehar: Tri-service maritime exercise.
  • ICG C-162: high-speed interceptor boat.
  • INSV Tarini: Indian Navy’s sailboat led by all-women crew, reached Cape Town, South Africa as part of Navika Sagar Parikrama expedition. This is the first-ever Indian circumnavigation of the globe by an all-women crew.
  • Navjot Kaur becomes first Indian woman to win gold at Asian Wrestling Championships
  • Government to spend Rs 2,919 crore projects under Nirbhaya fund to create 8 safe cities.
  • Rooppur nuclear power plant: Dhaka, Bangladesh. India, Russia, Bangladesh sign pact for construction. It is Bangladesh’s first atomic energy project.
  • March 3: World Wildlife Day. It is celebrated to mark the signing of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) on this day in 1973. Theme for this year is ‘Big Cats: Predators under Threat’.
  • Krishna Kumari Kohli: Pakistan elects first Hindu woman to Senate. She is from Sindh province.
  • The compound, silver copper telluride (AgCuTe): It has been developed by a team of researchers led by Dr Kanishka Biswas from Bengaluru’s Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR).It exhibits poor thermal conductivity but shows good electrical conductivity.
  • India’s first HeliTaxi service launched in Bengaluru. It was provided by Thumby Aviation.
  • Iraq overtakes Saudi Arabia as India’s biggest Oil Supplier.
  • India 12th largest overseas holder of US securities in 2017. China was largest holder followed by Japan.
  • Oscars 2018: 90th Academy Awards. Best Picture: The Shape of Water. Best Actress: Frances McDormand (Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri as Mildred Hayes). Best Actor: Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour as Winston Churchill) Best Director: Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water).
  • India-US team test-fires M777 ultra-light howitzers in Pokhran.
  • #YesIBleed menstrual hygiene campaign: Launched by Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
  • Animal Welfare Board of India headquarters shifted from Chennai to Ballabhgarh in Faridabad District of Haryana.
  • Marshall Islands in Pacific Ocean is set to become first country in world to recognize cryptocurrency as its legal tender.

  • 46th edition of Know India Programme (KIP): It is an initiative (scheme) of Ministry of External Affairs for Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) between the age group of 18 to 30 years. Madhya Pradesh was partner state.

  • Balkrishna Doshi wins Pritzker Prize: First from India to receive it. He is a pioneer of low-cost housing design.
  • CCI imposes Rs. 54 crore fine on 3 airlines for unfair business practices. Jet Airways, InterGlobe Aviation and SpiceJet. Competition Commission of India/Chairperson: Devender Kumar Sikri. CCI is quasi-judicial statutory body established under The Competition Act, 2002. It was established in October 2003 and became fully functional in 2009. It has 6 members.
  • European Bank for Reconstruction and Development approves India’s membership: India will become the 69th member.
  • Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH): Launched Sukhad Yatra mobile application and 1033 Toll-free Emergency number for highway users.
  • India-China trade hits record $84.4 billion in 2017 with 18.63% year-on-year growth rate.
  • For Fighting Air Pollution: Rs 1,151 crore fund to boost in-situ management of crop residue in Delhi and NCR. It will be used to establish Farm Machinery Banks (FMBs) for Custom Hiring of in-situ crop residue management machinery.
  • Nutrition Mission (NMM): was launched at Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan on the occasion of International Women’s Day under Ministry of Women and Child Development. The main aim is to reduce stunting, under-nutrition, anaemia among young children, women and adolescent girls and reduce low birth weight by at least 2% per annum. The mission will strive to achieve reduction in stunting from 38.4% (NFHS-4) to 25% by 2022.
  • Union Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers has launched ‘Suvidha’, a 100% Oxo-biodegradable Sanitary Napkin, under Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP)
  • Swachh Shakti 2018 celebrated in Lucknow under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The Swachh Shakti was launched by Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation in 2017 to recognise and felicitate  women sarpanches, women champions from across country for their outstanding contribution towards making Swachh Bharat.
  • Government expands Beti Bachao Beti Padha to pan India: The scheme was launched by Prime Minister in 2015 at Panipat, Haryana as comprehensive programme to address declining Child Sex Ratio in the country.

  • Karnataka Government approves state flag proposal. Got clearance from MHA, Karnataka will be the second state after Kashmir to have an official state flag.

  • Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership or CP TPP or TPP11 in Santiago, Chile. It is newer version of Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) after USA withdrew from it. It includes Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.
  • Russia test-fires ‘ideal’ hypersonic missile Kinzhal.
  • Samvedna 2018: IAF’s first multilateral Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) air exercise was held off the coast of Kerala. It involved representatives from air forces of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and UAE.
  • Government forms Tribunal to solve Mahanadi Water dispute between Odisha & Chhattisgarh. It was formed under of Inter-State River Water Disputes Act, 1956. A M Khanwilkar is the chairman of Tribunal.
  • Bidya Devi Bhandari: Nepal’s 1st woman President re-elected for 2nd term
  • President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated World Hindi Secretariat building in Port Louis, Mauritius.

  • India attracts $209 billion FDI during April 2014 to December 2017.

  • Jaipur to witness 8th Theatre Olympics: The largest international theatre festival being held for the first time in India. The theme of festival is – “Flag of Friendship”
  • Sustainable Action for Transforming Human Capital in Education (SATH-E): It aims at promoting vocational education, skill development, teacher training and introducing technology in classrooms. It will operate between 2018 to 2020 in three participating states- Jharkand, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha with main aim to transform elementary and secondary school education to create role model states for education across country.   • Government imposes anti-dumping duty on Ofloxacin antibiotic import from China.
