  • SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active –Learning for Young Aspiring Minds): HRD Ministry notifies 75 National Resource Centres (NRCs) for online refresher programmes for Higher Education faculty through SWAYAM. SWAYAM is a programme initiated by Government of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity and quality. The objective of this effort is to take the best teaching learning resources to all, including the most disadvantaged. SWAYAM seeks to bridge the digital divide for students who have hitherto remained untouched by the digital revolution and have not been able to join the mainstream of the knowledge economy.

  • Nepal to host 2018 BIMSTEC summit: Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation. Members are India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka from South Asia and Myanmar, Thailand from South East Asia.

  • Dhara Mustard Hybrid (DMH -11): transgenic mustard had been developed by a team of scientists Centre for Genetic Manipulation of Crop Plants at Delhi It is genetically modified variety of Herbicide Tolerant (HT) mustard. It was created by using “barnase/barstar” technology for genetic modification by adding genes from soil bacterium that makes mustard self-pollinating.

  • UN World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP), India’s economy is projected to grow 7.6% in fiscal year 2018-19, making it fastest growing economy.
