  • Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM was launched in October 2014 to achieve universal sanitation coverage and to put focus on sanitation. It aims to achieve Swachh Bharat by 2019, as a fitting tribute to the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
  • Mewa Singh’s night frog (Nyctibatrachus mewasinghi) in Kozhikode’s Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary, Kerala.
  • Recently Saudi Arabia, UAE introduce VAT for first time.

  • FAME India Scheme The Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles (FAME) India was launched in 2015 under the National Electric Mobility Mission (NEMM) aims at promoting eco-friendly vehicles in the country. It is being administered by the Heavy Industries Ministry.
  • eSamvad: NGO eSamvad is a portal started by the Ministry of Women and Child Development to provide a platform to interact with NGOs, civil society and concerned citizens.
  • Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill 2017:
  • The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) was enacted in 2016 to facilitate a time-bound resolution for ailing and sick firms.
  • Parliament passes NABARD (Amendment) Bill, 2017:
  • Union Government to increase capital of NABARD from Rs. 5000 crore to Rs 30,000 crore.
  • The Bill provides that Union Government alone must hold at least 51% capital share of NABARD.
  • Further, it transfers share capital held by RBI valued administration at Rs. 20 crore to Union Government. Currently RBI holds 0.4% of paid-up capital of NABARD and remaining 99.6% is held by Union government
  • NSA (National Security Advisor) is Ajit Doval.
  • Barak surface-to-air missiles (SAM): designed to be used as a ship-borne anti-missile defence system. Will be purchased from Israel.

  • Electoral bonds
  • Electoral bonds can be purchased for any value in multiples of 1,000, Rs.10,000, Rs.10 lakh, and Rs.1 crore from any of the specified branches of SBI.
  • A citizen of India or a body incorporated in India will be eligible to purchase the bond
  • It will have a life of 15 days during which they can be used to make donations to registered political parties. The electoral bonds will be available for purchase for a period of 10 days each in months of January, April, July and October with additional 30 days to be specified by Central government in year of general election.
  • Political parties that have secured not less than 1% of votes polled in last general election to Lok Sabha or Assembly can avail funding through this.
  • Typbar TCV: Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has given its pre-qualification to Typbar Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TVC) developed by Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech for global use. Typbar TCV is world’s first typhoid vaccine clinically proven to be administered to children from six months of age to adults.
  • Zojila Tunnel: Zoji La Tunnel is a planned 14 km long road tunnel under Zoji La pass on the Himalayas between Sonmarg and Dras town of Kargil district of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.

  • 75% Savings (Taxable) Bonds:
  • Citizens can invest in a taxable instrument, without any monetary ceiling.
  • The Bonds are open to investment by individuals (including Joint Holdings) and HUFs. Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) are not eligible for making investment.
  • They will be issued for minimum face value amount of Rs.1,000 and in multiples thereof.  There will be no maximum limit for investment in the Bonds.
  • The Bonds will have maturity of 7 years carrying interest at 7.75% per annum.
  • The Bonds are not transferable and also are not tradeable in secondary market.  They are also not eligible as collateral for loans from banking sector

  • Saudi Arabia has approved India’s plan to revive the option of ferrying Haj pilgrims via sea route from Mumbai to Jeddah. Earlier it was stopped in 1995.
  • Government completes 1st phase of BharatNet project: optical fibre cables (OFC) in more than 1 lakh gram panchayats.

  • The Union Finance Ministry has relaxed norms of Atal Pension Yojana (APY) to allow small finance banks and payment banks to offer APY distribution. APY became operational from June 1, 2015. It available to all citizens of India in the age group of 18-40 years (thus minimum period of contribution by subscriber is 20 years). Under scheme, subscriber will receive a minimum guaranteed pension of Rs. 1000 to Rs. 5000 per month, depending on his contribution, from age of 60 years. There is no exit to the scheme before the age of 60.

  • India and Pakistan have extended agreement of Thar Link Express, second rail service between both countries for three more years i.e. till 2021.
